About This Site

About Me
I've been a paid ESL teacher since 1996 — for five years, middle school ESL, language arts, and math, and after that a part-time ESL teacher in the Austin Community College Adult Basic Education department. I love teaching adults — so much so, that in the summer of 2009 I became a graduate student again. This time, I'm a Master of Arts candidate in the University of Texas Foreign Language Education program. My other degrees are a BA in speech from the University of Texas and an MA in film history and criticism from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. In my work life before teaching I was a technical writer and editor. Teaching is a lot more fun!

Why this Site?
This site is a recreation of the first site I created about 2004 when I started taking my beginning level ESL students to the computer lab. We all became frustrated with the possibility for error in laboriously copying URLs to reach a particular site, so I made a clickable list of my favorite URLs, and that list soon became an ESL page on our family website. The photographs in this version of the site are of students in my ESL classes at Austin Community College, taken and published with their permission.

A Work in Progress
I'm always open to suggestions for other links to add, and I sincerely hope you will tell me if you find a link that doesn't work. I check them fairly regularly, but it's easy to miss something. Whether you are a student, teacher, or simply an interested observer, I appreciate your interest, and I welcome your feedback.

Best wishes,
Nancy
